City based philanthropists pledge to raise over half a million for young carers charity

City based October Club selects Honeypot Children's Charity to receive the proceeds from the UK's biggest annual fundraising dinner.

London - The October Club, which has raised almost £10m for charitable causes in its 28 years history, will be aiming to raise over half a million during 2015 for the Honeypot Children's Charity to provide respite breaks and outreach support to children who have primary caring responsibilities for a loved one.

The announcement was made during a reception at the House of Commons, sponsored by Bloomberg Tradebook, where over 200 supporters of The October Club gathered to hear how the 2014 charity, Auditory Verbal UK is using the £535,000 raised last year to help deaf children to listen, speak and achieve their full potential.

In announcing the 2015 charity, The October Club chairman, Mark Pumfrey, pledged to raise more than half a million for the Honeypot Children's Charity to fund new services for young carers in Manchester, Liverpool and Birmingham.

He said: "We are delighted that The Honeypot Children's Charity continues our history of identifying outstanding charities with transformational projects that we at The October Club can fund. This year's project is particularly exciting because we are funding the build of a house that will provide young carers with respite breaks in Wales and the surrounding areas."

Simmi Woodwal, CEO, of Honeypot said: "We are a very small charity, and this type of support is absolutely unprecedented for us. The October Club's fundraising will help us achieve our long term aim of building a second respite house. This means we will be able to offer help to more children, many of whom are struggling to cope with adult responsibilities. We are very excited about working with The October Club over the months ahead".

The October Club Dinner, attended by approximately 400 largely City-based individuals, is the City's Equity Business 'Trade association event'. Previous charities have included Place2Be, St Giles Trust and debra.
